Step 1: Set the Sensitivity
Sensitivity describes a broad spectrum of factors that determine the genuity of a diamond crystal. Turn the volume knob on the selector until the "Battery OK" light turns green . After 20 seconds, the "Ready OK" light will also turn green.
Turn the knob once more until the second column of the LED-level meter lights up. This means the tester is ready to go. The larger the stone, the more you'll have to turn the knob. In some cases, you'll need to do the same in foggy weather.
Step 2: Remove the Cap and Test Your Diamond
Gently remove the cap and place it in a safe location. Once off, gently place the tip of the diamond tester at a right angle to the diamond. Press it firmly, but don't move it around, or you might damage the fragile tip.
If your hand is a bit wobbly, try placing your hand on the metal bar behind the tester. This will not only keep your hand steady, but anytime the tip moves away from the diamond, the tester will beep to alert you.
Step 3: Assessing the Results
If the light stays unchanged and doesn't move, the stone isn't a diamond. If the light moves slowly but doesn't reach "diamond," the stone could be a gemstone but not a diamond. If the light peaks at 9 and reaches "diamond," you have a genuine diamond.
