Engagement Trends

The jewelry industry is constantly changing, bringing with it waves of new looks, styles, and designs. Whether you are looking for your perfect ring or simply want to stay on top of the ever-changing industry, here are six engagement ring trends for 2021 that you don’t want to miss.

Engagement Trends

1. Toi et Moi

If you’re a sucker for romance and want to adopt a romantic twist for your engagement ring, the new two-stoned design is all the rage. Celebrities like Ariana Grande and Emily Ratajkowski have already given their stamp of approval for the trend with their own versions of the new style (Ariana with a diamond and pearl, Emily with two diamonds).

What makes this ring design so unique is the disconnected band that ends with two gems separated by a gap in between. Unlike traditional, symmetrical designs of a center gem or three center stones, the toi et moi style embraces asymmetry and lets your engagement ring be as quirky as you want.

2. Vintage

Vintage rings come and go. They’re never out of style for long before making a glorious comeback. And this year they’re coming back full force. So many brides have already chosen an old European or mine cut to adorn their detailed, silver rings.

However, if you don’t have a stunning family heirloom on hand, don’t worry. Vintage-style rings are easy to get with a technique known as antiquing. So if you’re set on a vintage engagement ring but don’t have one in the family, you can still join the trend.

3. Hidden Halos

A few years ago, halos, or a circle of gems surrounding the main gem, were all the rage. And while that trend has slowly died out, a new form of halos has taken its place. Called a hidden halo, this ring style creates a ring of gems facing out around the base of the main gem, only visible when you look at the ring from the side (hence the name hidden halo).

This style is a great way to add some extra bling to your ring without making it too flashy or crowded.

4. Compass Prongs

The standard placement for gem prongs is on the corners of the gem. The prong placement essentially creates an invisible X across the gem. However, a simple change in placement creates a whole new look for your engagement ring.

Compass prongs are prongs that are set on the top, bottom, and sides of the ring, creating an invisible + through the center of the gem. While this isn’t a major difference, it offers just enough change to showcase the gem in a slightly different way. It also catches the eye, as it strays of the standard prong placement.

You can choose compass prongs on any shape of gem, so it’s perfect for every style.

5. Black

White is likely the color that comes to mind when you think of a wedding. And silver, gold, and even rose are the more common thought-of choices for engagement ring colors. Even so, black is breaking all stereotypes and securing its place in the list of engagement ring trends.

While many engagement ring materials are silver or white, metals like titanium and rhodium can be colored black. You can also choose to have a different metal coated in a black material.

The black of the band gives you a stark contrast when paired with a light gem like a diamond or moissanite. No matter what gem you choose though, there’s no doubt that a black engagement ring will be an eye-catching accessory.

6. Statement Rings

Engagement rings are often thin bands with one or two wedding bands attached after the wedding. If you want a show-stopping piece, however, you can opt for a statement ring. Statement rings include a thick band with gems embedded in the band itself. These rings break away from the typical mold and present a more stylish design (they can even look like regular fashion rings).
